Spark Global Leaders will be at the forefront of HKUST’s campaign for campus internationalization, positivity-driven peer empowerment, and global leadership cultivation. Spark Global Leaders will co-organize and facilitate a series of activities with the Office of Global Learning to provide a global and inclusive university experience to the diverse HKUST student body.

SPARK GLOBAL LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

purpose

 

Spark Global Leaders will
  • Promote a positive campus environment by being an ambassador of diversity, inclusivity and positivity 
  • Empower themselves and their peers to engage their community actively and creatively by organizing activities that support HKUST students to make new friends
  • Support non-local students’ acclimatization to Hong Kong by facilitating walks/hikes and other activities around the city. Gain hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork and cross-cultural communication by facilitating student interactions at various Spark Global programs

 

Spark Global Leaders will take turn to
  • Independently or working in teams to organize weekly activities on/off-campus
  • Attend and contribute at monthly casual check-in briefings
  • All Spark Global Leaders are expected to contribute 3-5 hours per week
  • Below are some examples of the tasks and activities to be coordinated by a Spark Global Leader:
    • To facilitate, promote, and recruit student participants for weekend off-campus activities
    • To organize and lead original on-campus themed programs

 

Eligibility
  • ALL local and non-local undergraduate HKUST students, including first-year and final-year students
  • Students must be available for one of the chit-chat sessions on 12-13 Sep 2023, 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at HKUST
  • Selected Spark Global Leaders MUST be available for the Spark Global Boot Camp on 16 Sep 2023 (full day, 9:30am to 5:30pm)
  • Students must be in Hong Kong throughout the semester of Fall 2023

 

Exclusive Benefits

All Spark Global Leaders will participate in the Spark Global Boot Camp, jointly organized by HKUST Office of Global Learning, HKUST Career Center and Encompass HK. This Boot Camp is prepared exclusively for Spark Global Leaders. You will receive trainings by professional executive trainers on the topics including:

  • Cross-cultural communication, facilitation, and event management
  • Real-life conflict resolution 
  • Personal branding with persuasive storytelling
  • Strategic leadership
  • All Spark Global Leaders with satisfactory performance will receive the following competitive reward package at the end of their service term(s):
    • A LinkedIn ‘Recommendation’ written by the Assistant Manager of the Office of Global Learning; or a reference Letter of the same content signed by the respective supervisor
    • A certificate of service
    • Cross-cultural facilitation and leadership opportunities
