Donald LAI
Hey everyone! This is Donald (he/him). I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and I am currently a sophomore in the World Bachelor in Business Program. When I’m not busy juggling my work and study, I enjoy playing football, watching Formula 1 races, cafe-hopping, and most importantly, travelling. From feeding alligators in New Orleans to exploring the Bund in Shanghai to consulting in Mexico City, this year alone I have visited over 10 cities around the world. I can’t wait to meet more cool people and gain new perspectives from my future endeavours!
As part of the World Bachelor in Business Program, it was my first time studying abroad last academic year. I didn’t know anyone, wasn’t used to conversing in English, and felt alien to striking up spontaneous conversations. Overcoming these social obstacles made me realize the complex process of cultural adjustment for international students as well as the gap that frequently separates them from local students. Therefore, as a local student and a Spark Global Leader, I strive to culminate an inclusive learning environment at HKUST such that international students can assimilate into our culture seamlessly while bridging the gap between them and local students.
I am excited to be part of this journey, and hit me up if you’re down to explore some new places!
