Introduction
Overseas learning is an important part of the undergraduate study experience. HKUST encourages all undergraduate students to go abroad at least once during your time at HKUST. HKUST provides and administers funding support to lower the financial burden and increase access to study abroad or research abroad opportunities.
Funding Details
Every UG student is eligible to receive the Grant once throughout their undergraduate studies for participation in one approved program if they meet the criteria under the Guidelines and Notes for Students. Please refer to tables 1 and 2 for funding amount.
Note 1:
Recipients of financial assistance from the HKSAR Government are defined students who are receiving means-tested student financial assistance from Student Finance Office (SFO) (i.e. TSFS application) or whose family is receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) from the Social Welfare Department (SWD) in the corresponding academic year. You are required to indicate yourself as a recipient of the financial assistance from the HKSAR Government in your funding support application.
Subsequent Study Abroad Program Funding
Students who will be participating in additional eligible program(s) subsequent to their program funded by the HKUST Study Abroad Grant, and who wish to be considered for funding, may submit a funding application to the Office of Global Learning for consideration. If there is available funding, the application will be considered for an appropriate funding amount according to the available funding at the time and their requirements.
Application procedures
To apply for funding, students should submit an application to the Office of Global Learning through the HKUST MyStudyAbroad System. The application must be submitted following the application timeline outlined in "Application Timeline" below. In all cases, the application must be submitted before commencing the program unless pre-approval of late application has been obtained from OGL.
- For HKUST-organized study and research abroad programs, students should submit an application after committing to the program offer from School/OGL.
- For self-arranged study and research abroad programs, students must first submit a Program Registration request to the Office of Global Learning and receive a confirmation of endorsement. The complete application with all supporting documents must be submitted at least 3 weeks before the funding application deadline outlined in "Application Timeline" section below. Upon obtaining the status of a Registered Self-Arranged Program, then proceed to submit your funding application.
- Students should submit one funding application for each study and research abroad program.
- There is no need to choose the funding support schemes.
- Complete the steps outlined under the "Funding Disbursement" section below.
