Application (Spring 2026)

Eligibility

Full-time undergradaute students are eligible to apply for HKUST Mainland Outbound Undergraduate Exchange Program if you fulfill the requirements listed below:

  • You are in your second year of the bachelor degree or above by the time applying for HKUST Mainland Outbound Undergraduate Exchange Program;
  • CGA 2.5 or Have CGA 2.5 or above at the time of application (Students with CGA below 2.5 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.);
  • Have a good command of Putonghua and written Chinese;
  • HKUST Mainland Outbound Undergraduate Exchange Program is open to students from all schools. However, students from School of Engineering and School of Business and Management are required to fulfil their school-specific requirements listed on the website, and
  • Fulfil other specific requirements stipulated by the host institution listed on individual program brochure pages. In particular, non Hong Kong students (i.e. students who are not holding Home Permit to enter Mainland China) should read carefully on the restrictions stipulated by the host institution. 

 

Application procedures

Application HKUST Mainland Outbound Undergraduate Exchange Program usually starts one term before the exchange term. Generally, application for Fall Term exchange will open in February/March, while application for Spring Term exchange will open in September the year before. 

To apply, you should submit your application via MyStudyAbroad System before the deadline stated below.

Special notes for Mainland, Taiwan, Macau, international students

Special notes for Taiwan and Mainland Chinese students

As stipulated by majority of host institutions, only Hong Kong and Macau students will be accepted. By definition, you will be considered as a Hong Kong local student only if you enter Mainland China with a home permit. Some few institutions accept students from Taiwan and Mainland China.

You are advised to pay attention to the application details in MyStudyAbroad System before applying.

For International students

International students may be considered on a case-by-case basis for a few of the institutions in China. They may require proficiency in mandarin and written Chinese.

Majority of the mainland partner institutions' medium of instructions are Mandarin Chinese, and a few institutions have their medium of instruction as English. As such, they may only offer very limited courses taught in English. Students are expected to be flexible with course selection and prepare a back-up plan if you choose to exchange to Mainland China.
